In their final PACWEST volleyball action before the holiday break, the CapU Blues women's team sustained a 3-0 setback Friday night at the hands of the visiting Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners.
The opening set proved to be the Blues best effort on the night as they pushed the Mariners to extra points before falling 26-24. VIU, annually found atop the PACWEST standings, proved too much for CapU in sets two and three, and the visitors used their size advantage at the net to limit the Blues attack.
Blues veteran setter Kelsey Towers liked some of what she saw from her side Friday night but knows there is work to do heading into 2022 and the second half of the season (audio below):
CapU's record is now even at 3-3 while VIU improves to 5-2. The Blues are next in action Jan. 7 and 8, 2022 when they are scheduled to travel to Cranbrook to face the College of the Rockies. The next home game for the Blues is Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 when Columbia Bible College comes to the Centre for Sport and Wellness for a 6 p.m. start.
