Current PACWEST female Athlete of the Week Claire Ye scored in the 27th minute and it stood up as the winner in a 3-0 Blues home win Saturday afternoon over the visiting Douglas College Royals.
The Blues followed up with a 3-1 win Sunday over host Langara.
After a see-saw start Saturday in which neither team looked dominant over the first 20 minutes, CapU began to take the edge in possession. Ye gathered the ball and tested Douglas' Elisha Machado with a lofty shot from distance and the keeper was not able to to reach it.
It was Ye's team-leading third goal of the season, all of them coming in the in a two-game span, and proved to be all the offense the Blues would need on the day.
The score remained 1-0 at halftime but early in the second, Alanah Dulong added on with her first of the season as she punched home a loose ball in the Royals goal area to make it a two-goal advantage for the home side.
Kayla Campbell, who subbed into the game late in the first half, was able to draw a penalty kick in the 52nd minute but was stopped by Machado however the keeper was ruled to have left her goal line early and another shot was awarded. CapU captain Ada Babinski was selected for the second attempt and she too was stopped by Machado but Campbell cleaned up the rebound to make it 3-0.
Sabrina Lam made three saves for her second clean sheet and third win of the season.
On Sunday, CapU faced Langara at the Falcons home park of Swangard Stadium and some miscommunication on the part of the Blues led to the home side taking a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. It was the first time the Blues have trailed since their first game of the season at Douglas College.
Undeterred, Capilano got organized and leveled the score on Andrea Perrotta's first goal of the season and the teams went into halftime tied at one.
Jessika Thaler supplied the game-winning goal for the Blues in the 64th minute, her second goal of the season, and Campbell added her second of the weekend and third of the year to finish up the scoring.
Alexa Gazzola and Megan Thitchener split the game in the Blues net, Thitchener making her PACWEST debut in the process.
The PACWEST is taking a break for the Thanksgiving long weekend and will be back in action Oct. 16 when the Blues host the Vancouver Island University Mariners in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Lillooet Park.
