Rafael Hilario has been named an All-Canadian as part of the CCAA's national awards for the 2021-22 season.
The third-year Blues outside hitter from Brazil is one of 12 players so honoured by the CCAA after another outstanding season in which he led his team in total kills, kills per set and aces. He ranked in the top three in the PACWEST in each of those categories as well as in digs and total offence.
It's the latest in a decorated Blues career for the native of Rio de Janeiro. In 2019-20, his first with CapU, Hilario was a PACWEST First-Team All-Star and earned a spot on the PACWEST provincial tournament team after the Blues won the 2020 gold medal. Hilario was also named to the CCAA Tournament All-Star team in 2020 when CapU won its first-ever men's volleyball national championship.
Other recognition Hilario has earned this past season includes a spot once again on the First Team of PACWEST All-Stars and a PACWEST and CCAA Athlete of the Week award after a Dec. 3 victory over Vancouver Island University where he had 18 kills on 30 swings for a .467 hitting percentage. He also had four aces and 23 points of total offence in the win.
For his two seasons of PACWEST competition, Hilario is well inside the Top-10 in career kills for the Blues and is high up the all-time list for aces as well.
This is the fourth All-Canadian recognition for Blues athletes for the 2021-22 season along with Claire Ye and Kayla Campbell from women’s soccer and Nima Moazeni Zadeh from men’s soccer
