The Blues scored early and often in their 7-1 victory over the Fanshawe College Falcons in the 2021 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship quarter-finals.
We caught up with head coach, Dennis Kindel briefly to see how the team is feeling after the match and moving forward.
Raeside: We're here with head coach, Dennis Kindel. Congratulations on today's huge victory. The team must be feeling pretty good right now.
Kindel: Yes, thank you. No, the team is, you know, very ecstatic. Coming into Toronto and, you know, getting our bearings and into the rooms and everything. Then had a day to rest. Then we know that, you know, come Wednesday afternoon and it's game time, it's who shows up. I told them that it doesn't matter what you did yesterday or what's tomorrow, you've got to show up these two hours. And we did that. We showed up and we put the ball many times in the back of that net.
Raeside: Were you a bit surprised with how many goals the team managed to score? Some of them were pretty nice goals as well.
Kindel: Yes, I am surprised. I know we will fill the net. That's been our motto all season, attack, attack, attack, overwhelm, cross, shoot. Do whatever it takes, follow up on rebounds. And that's what we did today. Big on corners, it started off my Fraser on a corner kick from Adrianna Babinski and heading into the back of the net. Then Catrina on an individual effort to get past her player and take a shot, you know, side netting and it just kind of went from there. Kayla Campbell again in the 27th minute got another goal, an assist from Claire Ye and everyone just kept contributing. Taylor Colby as well in the 31st minute, which went from a cross from Catrina. Then another three more before the half. It was seven nothing at half and as a coach, you couldn't be more thrilled than to have that option.
Raeside: So moving forward, Vanier should present quite the challenge. So what's your message to the team going into the match?
Basically, today we got to rest up, you know, watching video to see what they're like. Do all our routine, do everything, get yourself ready and prepared, do what you need to do to have one of the biggest games of your life and they are the number one seed in Canada. Tomorrow, it's going to be one of the biggest games, it is the biggest game of the season right now tomorrow. Be prepared and be ready again for 3:00 when that time hits that we are ready for those two hours.
Raeside: Great. Thanks for your time, Dennis, and good luck tomorrow.
Kindel: All right, thank you so much.
