After a 45-day layoff owing to the holiday break and a cancelled road trip, the Capilano Blues men's volleyball team got back into PACWEST action Saturday night at the Centre for Sport and Wellness with a win, three sets to one, over the visiting Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats.
The Blues welcomed middle blocker Enis Besirevic back to the lineup after the 6-foot-5 Aussie missed the first half of the season with injury. The reigning CapU Male Student Athlete of the Year responded with eight kills and an ace while also getting in on two blocks.
Setter Jenson Yuen kept his teammates involved in the attack as eight Blues recorded kills. First-year outside hitter Jesse Lee reached double digit kills while Rafael Hilario led the way on the night with 11 while also adding three aces and a pair of blocks.
CapU took the opening set 25-18 but were not sharp in the second set, dropping it 25-15. The home side rebounded taking sets three and four by scores of 25-18 and 25-19, looking more organized as the match progressed.
Jacob Hopkins accounted for five kills and also tallied a pair of aces.
The next PACWEST action for the Blues is Saturday, Jan. 22 in an 8 p.m. start at Douglas College.
