Sam Bailey's monster double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds plus a season-high 24 points from CJ Campbell enabled the Capilano Blues to secure a 90-81 home win over the Okanagan College (OC) Coyotes Sunday afternoon.
Starting a four-guard lineup, Blues coach Alex Van Samang needed a presence in the block and on the glass and Bailey (audio below) provided it in a big way Sunday. The 6-foot-7 North Vancouver native established himself early with five boards in the opening quarter although OC led by five after the first 10 minutes.
He continued his assault on the glass in the third quarter with six rebounds and six points as the Blues began to separate themselves from the Coyotes. Bailey put an exclamation point on his night late in the third with a huge putback dunk (video clip below) that put CapU up for good.
Campbell had one of his best games in Blues colours, packing the stat line with eight rebounds, four assists and five steals to go along with his 24 points.
The win moves the Blues to 9-5 in PACWEST play which puts them in third place. CapU hosts Langara College Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 in the final two regular-season games for both teams. Start times are 8 p.m. both nights.
