Kirsten Abo’s career night lifted the Capilano Blues to an important 89-79 road win over Camosun College Saturday afternoon in Victoria.
The CapU starting point guard came out hot at Camosun, notching 10 points in the first quarter including a pair of threes as the Blues increased their lead over Camosun in the PACWEST standings.
She would add two more from downtown in the second quarter, helping the Blues to a seven-point lead at halftime on their way to a third win in a row.
Camosun hung tough with the Blues in the third quarter getting five points off the bench from Tegan Michel and Julia Forsyth.
But CapU’s bench strength showed as well in the second half with Madeleine Coffin providing six points of her eight points in the third quarter.
Abo hit again from three-point range in the third and also grabbed two of her six rebounds on the afternoon. She would add two of her five assists in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.
Blues forward Ida Jonsson-Ojala finished one point shy of her third-straight double double and had to settle for nine points and 13 boards for the game.
Jenna Griffin was efficient, shooting 7-for-13 on her way to a 16-point night while Devon Wood contributed all over the court with nine points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
The Blues are now 8-4 in PACWEST play, good for third place, while Camosun is 7-9 and sitting in fourth.
Next up for the Blues is a home game Sunday, Feb. 13 with Okanagan College coming to CapU’s Centre for Sport and Wellness for a 1 p.m. tip off.
