Langara Takes Rematch, Split Weekend

Langara Takes Rematch, Split Weekend

Brent Mutis, CapU Sport Information & Compliance Officer

A night after surrendering 119 points in a loss, the visiting Langara Falcons tightened things up Saturday in an 88-77 win over the host Capilano Blues.

AJ Chahal and Chance Samuel each went 4-for-7 from three-point range for Langara, scoring 16 points apiece. Allayassa Bray led a balanced Falcons offence with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Blues, perhaps too fancy after racking up a season high in points the night before, committed six turnovers in the first quarter and shot just 6-for-20 in the second quarter to trail by 15 at the break.

Playing his final home game at CapU, senior guard Brenden Bailey (interview below) was one Blues shooter dialed in early scoring 13 in the first half on the way to a game-high 19. Tyrone Asenoguan notched his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 boards.

Also playing his final Blues home game Saturday was Martin Bogajev who registered 12 points including a pair of threes.

On Friday, all five Capilano Blues starters scored well into double digits as the team notched a season-high point total in a 119-100 win over the visiting Falcons.

Bogajev (video clip below) led all scorers on the night with 25 points, 19 of which came in the third quarter where the Blues outscored the Falcons 40-21. Brenden Bailey (video clip below) registered 19 for CapU while CJ Campbell had 12, Asenoguan had 18 and Sam Bailey added 19 on 8-of-10 shooting.

The Blues announced their run-and-gun intentions early with 33 points and a 16-point lead after the first quarter. Langara bit into the lead in the second but the home side exploded out of the halftime break and were never threatened after that.

CapU set season marks for attempts and makes from three on Friday, going 22-for-48 (45.8 per cent), the best rate from downtown the Blues have had in a game this season where had at least 25 looks.

Asenoguan was just a few stats shy of a triple-double as he wound up with nine rebounds and eight assists to go along with his 19 points.

Next on the schedule is the PACWEST provincials happening March 3 to 5 at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford.
