After a pair of wins for the women's side and a weekend split for the men, the CapU Department of Athletics and Recreation has another pair of players earning the Athlete of the Week honours presented by WestPark for Week 2 of PACWEST soccer.
Claire Ye is the female Athlete of the Week. The product of Coquitlam started both games on the weekend and scored twice in a 5-2 road win Sunday at VIU. Ye was used at midfield at home Saturday and was a steadying influence in a 2-0 clean sheet victory.
The fourth-year communications student put her versatility on display Sunday as she started at left wing and opened the scoring at VIU and later played at centre midfield, adding her second of the day for the final Blues tally. The 5-foot-2 veteran then moved to defender to steady the back line and stop a late VIU rally. She is now tied for the team lead in goals with two this season and has 13 for her PACWEST career.
Since earning the Blues nod, Ye has since been named the PACWEST female Athlete of the Week and a CCAA Athlete of the Week.
Jeremy Monn-Djasngar is the male Athlete of the Week. The fourth-year kinesiology student scored a brace in the Blues 3-1 win Saturday, opening the scoring in the fourth minute and later adding his second early in the second half. The 6-foot-1 forward is now second in Blues scoring with three goals on the campaign and is up to 15 goals for his PACWEST career.
