The visiting Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners maintained their perfect record, now 10-0 and alone atop the PACWEST, after a 100-73 win over the Blues at Capilano University's Centre for Sport and Wellness Saturday evening.
Mariners guard Tori Odom led the way with 30 points and 16 rebounds while forward Akoi Yuot also had a double-double with 25 and 11 with five blocks.
CapU led by three after the first quarter with Tyrone Asenoguan and Sam Bailey pacing the offence in the early going. It was a dominant second quarter, in which VIU outscored the Blues 36-18, that put the visitors ahead and they never trailed again.
Harry Liu scored eight of his 14 on the night in the third quarter with Capilano taking a small bite out of the VIU lead.
Bailey and VIU swingman Richard Henderson got into a scuffle over a loose ball in the third quarter with both players given ejections.
Odom capped his night with 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Asenoguan wound up even with Martin Bogajev to lead the Blues in scoring for the night with 15 points. Owen Cutler scored nine off the bench, all on threes in the first half.
The Blues are scheduled to be in action next on Jan. 28 with an 8 p.m. road game at CBC. Next home game is Saturday, Jan. 29 in an 8 p.m. tip off against Douglas.
