The PACWEST announced Wednesday its 2021-22 All-Star Teams and three Blues earned recognition.
Kirsten Abo, Jenna Griffin and Ida Jonsson-Ojala were all named PACWEST Second-Team All-Stars.
Griffin was also named to the PACWEST All-Rookie Team.
Abo, a third-year guard from Richmond, B.C., has crafted her best season with the Blues to date establishing new career highs in points and rebounds per game as well as three-pointers made. The 5-foot-4 McNair Secondary graduate filled a leadership role on the team and handled opposition pressure with ease with her ball handling.
Griffin made the PACWEST Second Team and All-Rookie Team after leading the Blues in total points and had the best three-point percentage among Blues players with at least 20 attempts. She led the Blues in minutes played and was second in assists.
The 5-foot-4 product of Heritage Woods Secondary was named the PACWEST and CCAA Athlete of the Week the week of Nov. 1, 2021.
Jonsson-Ojala joined the Blues roster in January and quickly established herself as a top rebounder in the PACWEST, averaging 12.1 boards per game. In eight games, all in the starting lineup, the native of Norrköpping, Sweden, also averaged 11.8 points per game and had five double-doubles while averaging just over a block per game.
The 6-foot-2 forward earned the PACWEST Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 31 after posting 31 points and 27 rebounds in a pair of Blues wins.
Abo, Griffin, Jonsson-Ojala and the rest of the Blues have their next game at the PACWEST provincials being hosted at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford.
As the conference’s No. 2 seed, the Blues have a bye into the semifinal on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. where they will play the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 Okanagan College and No. 6 Langara College.
