After opening the season with two straight wins, Blues men's soccer now sees its record at 2-3 after a pair of 2-0 defeats, first Saturday afternoon at the hands of the visiting Douglas College Royals and the same score Sunday at Langara College.
Saturday, the visiting Royals got both their goals from Yianni Siafakas, the first coming in the fifth the minute and the second in the 15th.
Douglas was able to manage the game effectively after staking themselves to the two-goal lead and kept the Blues attack to the outside. CapU managed just a couple of shots on goal. Marcus Biagi made four saves in the Blues net.
First-year players Beckham Hatch and Luca Martinelli both started and turned in 90-minute performances at midfield. The Blues and PACWEST leading scorer Nima Moazenizadeh were held off the scoresheet for the first time this season.
Capilano was without the services of import Connor Cowan-Thompson Saturday while fellow Englishman James Fergany remains sidelined to start the season.
On Sunday, CapU made their way to Swangard Stadium for a meeting with Langara but it was the Falcons capitalizing on some late Blues errors on their way to the 2-0 win.
The game was scoreless and looked to be headed for a nil-nil result but a penalty kick was awarded to the Falcons in the 85th minute as David Rodriguez Zegarra went down in the box. He made no mistake on the kick and sealed the win for the home side.
Langara added on in the games final moment as a direct free kick eluded Colby Moore who appeared to losed track of his positioning to his posts and the ball wound up in the net for the 2-0 final.
The PACWEST rest for Thanksgiving long weekend and the Blues return to the pitch Saturday, Oct. 16 with the Vancouver Island University Mariners visiting CapU in a 3:30 p.m. start.
