Ida Jonsson-Ojala posted her third double-double in four games and Kirsten Abo (interview below) hit a huge three in the closing moments as the Capilano Blues defeated the visiting Okanagan College (OC) Coyotes 72-64 Sunday afternoon at the Centre for Sport and Wellness.
The victory makes it four in a row for Capilano.
The Blues started fast, going up 15-2 before the game was four minutes old. But OC rallied led by seven points off the bench for Paloma Niz Velazquez.
Jonsson-Ojala was productive throughout the game but did her best work in the third quarter when she scored six of her 18 points and grabbed four of her 12 rebounds. She would also dish four assists for the game and added two blocks.
Abo, the current PACWEST Athlete of the Week, followed up her career-high 26-point game at Camosun last week with 12 on Sunday including a crucial three with 2:51 remaining just as OC was clawing back in the late going.
CapU improves to 9-4 in PACWEST play and is currently tied with Douglas College for second place.
Next on the schedule is a midweek meeting Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Douglas College in a 6 p.m. tip off.
The Blues host Langara College Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 in the final two regular-season games for both teams. Both games are 6 p.m. start times.
