Student-Athlete Services

Academic Advising

Each Blues varsity team has at least one Academic Advisor to help student-athletes with all academic matters, from course planning to exam prep. Contact info for the Advisors can be found on the Staff Directory.

Learning Support

The University provides specific learning services, including a Writing Centre, Math Learning Centre, Language Resource Centre, and Accessibility Services. CapU also hosts several Student Success Workshops throughout the year and offers a Student Success Course (USS 100).

Career Development Centre

Student-athletes can receive one-on-one career advising, and attend events and workshops on campus to meet with employers. Areas of help include the job search process, figuring out a career path, and creating a smooth transition from school to the workforce.

The Career Development Centre website also has links to a Jobs Board with postings for jobs of all varieties, including part-time, summer jobs, and positions in specific fields.

Writing Centre & Math Learning Centre

The Writing Centre and Math Learning Centre offer drop-in assistance from CapU instructors every weekday. At the Writing Centre, students can also book appointments to meet one-on-one with instructors or with fellow students. The Centres are a valuable resource at any stage of the semester, and also provide study spaces and reference texts.

Peer Support Coach Program

Under the umbrella of the University's Peers Helping Peers mentorship program, the Peer Support Coaches provide support to first-year student-athletes in their transition to university and to life as a student-athlete. Each varsity team has at least two mentors who have undergone training for the role, and they perform check-ins with their teammates throughout the season, in addition to providing general support and mentorship.
