The Capilano Blues, PACWEST Champions, came from behind in the gold-medal final to defeat the Douglas Royals 2-1. Led by PACWEST Player of the Year Claire Ye, the 7-1-1 Blues finished in a tie for first place in the conference with Douglas.
They’ll face the Fanshawe Falcons, OCAA Champions. Fanshawe captured its third consecutive OCAA title with a 2-1 victory over the St. Lawrence Surge in the gold-medal final at the Conference Championships. The Falcons, led by fifth-year striker Kayla McQueen, finished atop the OCAA West Division standings with a 5-0-1 record.
Head Coach Dennis Kindel remarked on their goals for the season, "They're very happy. Excited. You know, we set a goal out at the beginning of pre-season to win a provincial title and get to nationals, and we fulfilled that dream, and they're all just very excited to get to the next stage."
While the team is thrilled with their gritty performance at the PACWEST Provincial Championship, they aren't looking at the National Championship as a vacation.
"It's nice having the experience of going to nationals, but the experience is one thing. We want to go there and we want to win it, that that's what we're there for."
