A trip to the top-ranked Douglas College Royals' gym Saturday proved too much for the Capilano Blues as they dropped a straight-sets loss.
The setback puts the Blues at 4-6 in PACWEST play, firmly in fourth place in the standings.
On Saturday, the home side Royals started fast by racing out to a 25-7 win in the first set.
After an uneven week of practice with several players in and out of training due to illness, the Blues were not as organized as they would have liked and the 10-1 Royals took full advantage.
CapU was more competitive in sets two and three but still fell 25-16 and 25-18.
First-year outside hitter Grace Brisebois got the start, her first of the season, and had to play some middle blocker as well. The Sechelt, B.C. product was a factor for the Blues at the net using her 6-foot frame to get in the way of the Royals attack. Brisebois' lefthanded swing also generated a few kills and produced a pair of aces from the service line.
The Blues are next in action Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28 and 29, with a weekend doubleheader at Vancouver Island University. VIU sits second in the PACWEST with a 7-2 record.
