In the first game at Lillooet Park since Oct. 19, 2019, Sabrina Lam posted a clean sheet for her first win in Blues colours Saturday afternoon as CapU defeated the visiting Langara College Falcons 2-0.
Aynsley Hurtado's first goal of the season came in the 15th minute and stood up as the winner. Taylor Colby added on late in the first half with the first goal of her CapU career.
Lam was not busy in the Blues net but was steady when called upon, smothering several Falcons efforts in the area.
On Sunday, CapU traveled to Nanaimo for a meeting with the then No. 2-ranked Vancouver Island University Mariners. The unranked Blues did not let VIU's national standing get in the way as they struck for five goals before VIU could manage a reply on the way to a 5-2 triumph.
Veteran midfielder Claire Ye, who started the game up at left wing, opened the scoring with her first of two on the day. Jessika Thaler followed shortly after with her first of the season and Colby added her second of the weekend just five minutes later. Mya Fraser would add another, the first goal of her Blues career, in the 40th minute to put the Blues in full control.
Ye made it a five-goal advantage early in the second half.
Not to be outdone, Capilano goalkeeper Lam turned away not one but two Mariners penalty kick attempts getting some assistance from the crossbar on one of the VIU efforts.
The Blues were without usual starters Catrina Olstrom, Ada Babinski, Kayla Campbell and Maya Smith on Sunday but got stellar fill-in performances from Jessica Caravatta, Andrea Perrotta, and Kai Belbin.
Next up for Capilano (2-0-1) is a home date Oct. 2 with the Douglas College Royals (3-0-1) coming in for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
