With only a few weekends of PACWEST volleyball remaining to finalize the order of finish in the standings, the Capilano Blues notched an important road win over conference-leading Douglas College Saturday night.
The Blues came out on top in a three-sets-to-one triumph over the Royals, moving their conference record to 6-4 which puts them in third place behind Douglas (8-3) and Vancouver Island University (7-3).
Veteran outside hitter Jacob Hopkins was a bright light for the Blues Saturday night. The 6-foot-2 fourth-year man from Powell River recorded seven kills and filled out the stat sheet with four aces, two blocks and eight digs.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-21.
It's the second-straight win for CapU after having to accept a pair of automatic forfeit defeats to College of the Rockies as a result of not being able to make the trip to Cranbrook Jan. 7 and 8.
Next up for the Blues is an important road doubleheader at Vancouver Island University Jan. 28 and 29. A split of those games would keep VIU in second place in the standings and in line for a first-round playoff bye. If CapU can manage two wins on the weekend, they would vault VIU into second spot but still behind Douglas who will be idle the Jan. 28-29 weekend.
