The Capilano Blues came up just short today, falling to the Langara Falcons 80-60. After a strong start, the Blues struggled with unforced errors, which allowed the Falcons to seize control in the second half.
While yesterday’s game saw the Blues struggling from deep, today's saw unforced turnovers. The Blues had 24 turnovers to the Falcons 15, and 24 fouls to 16, which saw the Falcons get 27 free throw attempts.
The Blues started strong, hitting their shots early and bringing a different energy to the floor compared to yesterday. They led after the first quarter and were only down by one at halftime, 37-36. Coming out of the break, Langara found their rhythm, and the Blues were forced into a series of uncharacteristic turnovers. Despite a late push, the mistakes proved too costly, and the Falcons walked away with the win 80-60.
It was a disappointing loss, especially after showing flashes of strong play in the early going. The Blues will need to focus on limiting their turnovers, as Langara scored 25 points off turnovers. The team's spirits are up, which is important after a sweep. They're excited to get back at it in practice this week and make improvements to make a final push for the last few games of the season.
Maddy Coffin outscored everyone on the court today by over 10 points; she ended the game with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna Griffin also had 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Looking ahead to next weekend, the Blues are back on the road in Nanaimo to take on the first-ranked VIU Mariners. The Blues will look to clean up on some small errors, but with the right adjustments, they can get back on track for a strong finish to the season.
They return home on February 21st and 22nd for their final home games of the season.
