A last minute goal from Sophie Pather sent the proceedings to extra time and when that solved nothing, it was a penalty kick finished by Ella Jennings that put the Capilano Blues past the Douglas College Royals and into Sunday's gold-medal final.
The Royals' Isabelle Dobbin scored in the 20th minute and that almost held up as the winner. The final seconds were ticking down when Pather hit a turnaround bender that curled past a diving Vanessa Chung and into the Douglas goal.
Both teams had their chances in the pair of 15-minute extra time sessions but nothing was settled which set the scene for penalty kicks.
Capilano keeper Amaya Salvino was extraordinary in the PK showdown. After Douglas' Mia Jenkinson scored on the first attempt, it was Salvino herself who took the first Blues shot and she showed rare poise, driving her shot to the top right corner. She would go on to stop three of the next four Royals shots which put things down to the Blues' fifth shooter, Jennings. The third-year defender struck her shot and Chung got a piece but couldn't keep it out, sending the Blues players rushing to join their hero.
The Blues meet the Vancouver Island University Mariners in Sunday's final with kickoff at Noon. Both teams have a spot in the CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship as the Blues are hosting.
All that remains to be decided is who gets the PACWEST championship banner.
