A rookie setter and third-year guard earn Athletes of the Week recognition for the second week of games in 2025.
Mollie English is the Capilano University Blues women's Athlete of the Week.
The first-year setter was instrumental in the Blues weekend sweep on the road at College of the Rockies, putting up huge assist totals and getting all of her teammates involved in the CapU offence.
English posted 43 assists in Friday's four-set win but outdid that with a monster afternoon Saturday, recording 57 assists to lift the Blues to a five-set triumph, the team's seventh win in a row. The Vernon, B.C. product had an eye-popping 100 assists for the weekend, with her Saturday total the highest for a Blues women's player since statistics began being kept in 2015.
Russell Curley is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-6 forward was the Blues leading scorer both nights as CapU settled for a split against the visiting CBC Bearcats.
Curley came off the bench in Friday’s win and shot 8-for-12 with a pair of threes on his way to 18 points while also collecting eight boards. His showing got him a look in the starting lineup Saturday, and he responded with a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. For the weekend, he shot 63 percent from the floor (15-for-24) with 21 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.
