The CCAA has revealed its list of Academic All-Canadians for the 2024-25 season and nine Capilano Blues student-athletes have earned the honour, a new CapU record.
From women's volleyball, Abby Betker and Nnya Mbaoma took the honour, Riley Marshall and Tommy Millar from men's soccer, Mya Fraser and Maya Smith from women's soccer, Xavier Masztak from men's volleyball and Maddy Coffin and Barcha Hnizdilova from women's basketball.

To be recognized as a CCAA Academic All-Canadian, a student-athlete must be named a conference all-star while also recording a grade-point average of 3.50 or better during their most recent semester of competition.
Each of the Blues student-athletes named by the CCAA this week turned in stellar performances on the field of play while taking care of studies at an honour-roll level.

Abby Betker | The native of Kimberley, B.C. came to CapU from the College of the Rockies and had an immediate impact, finishing second on the team in kills with 192 while playing all 20 PACWEST matches to earn a spot of the conference second team of all-stars. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter will pursue a kinesiology degree after transferring to the program this year. |

Nnya Mbaoma | A fixture of the Blues offensive attack for four seasons now, Mbaoma had another impressive campaign and led the team with 272 kills which placed her third in the PACWEST and earned her a first-team all-star nod. A science student, this is the second-straight year she has been named a CCAA Academic All-Canadian. |

Riley Marshall | A second season in Blues colours after transferring from UBC-Okanagan saw Marshall cement his place on the Blues back line. The Langley, B.C. product and kinesiology major provided stout defending and a physical presence for a Capilano side that conceded just 17 goals in 12 games. |

Tommy Millar | The Blues captain was once again a unifying figure in the middle of the park, maintaining possession even when heavily marked and helping the Blues transition the ball up field. The arts and sciences student scored the first two goals of his Blues career this past season and earned a PACWEST All-Star honour for the second season in a row. |

Mya Fraser | The hometown North Vancouver native finished her Blues career in style with PACWEST All-Star honours, two game-winning goals at the CCAA National Championship and a CCAA Tournament All-Star recognition after helping the host Blues to a bronze-medal finish. This is the first CCAA Academic All-Canadian recognition for the communications major. |

Maya Smith | For the second straight year, Smith took the CCAA's top honour as she completed her kinesiology degree. The Blues midfielder was a PACWEST All-Star for the second time and earned a spot on the CCAA Tournament All-Star team after a strong showing at the national championship. |

Xavier Masztak | In his first year at Capilano, the Australian international proved an effective attacker at the net from his outside hitter position, leading the team with 169 kills which placed him fifth in the PACWEST. Masztak took a spot on the conference's second all-star team and thrived in the classroom, working on a kinesiology degree. |

Maddy Coffin | The North Vancouver native and graduate of Seycove Secondary was a mainstay in the Blues starting lineup and played her best when it counted most, averaging 15.3 points and six rebounds at the PACWEST provincials hosted at CapU to take a spot on the tournament all-star team. The communications major earned the CCAA Academic All-Canadian honour for the second year in a row. |

Barcha Hnizdilova | Building on her first season at CapU where she took the PACWEST Rookie of the Year award, the Czech international posted a sophomore campaign that included 13 points per game and a team-leading 9.8 rebounds per game while averaging over three assists per contest with almost two steals a game as well. The psychology major took this CCAA honour for the second year in a row. |
The nine Blues honoured with this award for 2024-25 bests the previous record of seven which happened in both the 2016-17 and 2021-22 seasons.
