CapU Blues sports info
Chalk it up to a learning experience.
Facing the CCAA's No. 1-ranked team - the College of the Rockies (COTR) Avalanche - on their own home court, the Capilano Blues saw firsthand what an experienced and talented side is capable of as the home team took both ends of the Jan. 17-18 double header.
Capilano, who have no fourth- or fifth-year players and regularly dress eight rookies, had trouble generating much of anything against COTR on the weekend, dropping both matches in straight sets. On Friday, the opening set was the Blues best as Simon Russo recorded three kills but COTR took it 25-22 and held CapU to the mid-teens in scoring in the other two sets.
Saturday, Capilano was more competitive but the Avalanche were never in any real trouble, winning by set scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. Kingsley Ndu put away four kills in the opening set, but got just two more the rest of the afternoon.
A positive note was some of the defensive play at the net for the Blues on the weekend as Kai Haley Lo Yan got in on five blocks to go with 10 kills over the two games while Quentin Middleton was part of six stuffs from his middle blocker spot.
The PACWEST schedule doesn't get much easier this coming weekend with Camosun College paying a visit to North Vancouver Friday and Saturday. The Blues will regroup and get set to host the Chargers in matches starting at 8 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.
