Mental Health Resources

CapU Counselling and Learning Support offers free confidential discussions with trained personal counsellors. There are six counsellors on staff, including one learning support specialist. They are located in Birch 267.

Counsellors offer concrete assistance and emotional support, and talking to them helps students understand problems they might have and how to discover solutions. If you feel that something is wrong but don’t know what, talking with a counsellor is a great first step toward identifying the problem. The counsellors focus on short-term solutions but will direct the students towards more personalized counselling if the student is interested in more long-term counselling.

Areas of help include addiction, anxiety, assertiveness skills, depression, eating disorders, grief and loss, goal setting and motivation, procrastination, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, self-harm, sexuality, stress management, suicidal feelings, and time management.

Multidisciplinary Health

Blues student-athletes can access various multidisciplinary health services such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, sports counselling, and chiropractic services to support their needs.

The North Vancouver campus of Capilano University is the site of one of the finest college sports complexes in Canada. The Centre for Sport and Wellness (formerly Sportsplex) opened in 1991 and is ultra-modern in design and features a large, showcase gymnasium with a hardwood playing surface. Seating is provided by individually-moulded studio seats, complete with backs and armrests mounted on retractable platforms. The seating capacity accommodates approximately 1,700 spectators and the ceiling height is 30 feet.

The gymnasium includes two full-size regulation basketball courts, including 10 glass backboards, three regulation volleyball courts, eight badminton courts, and two futsal indoor soccer courts. Additionally, the CSW contains athletic training and physical therapy facilities, a weight room and two entirely self-contained team rooms complete with separate lockers, showers, and washroom facilities for the exclusive use of Blues student-athletes.

CapU Blues teams have access to the latest training techniques with qualified head coaches and staff. Basketball utilizes the Noah shooting system and the Dr. Dish CT shooting machine, volleyball employs Vert wearable technology, and soccer utilizes wearable GPS training technology to improve individual and team performance.
