A pair of midfielders earn Athlete of the Week honours for week three of the 2024-25 season.
Maya Smith is the Capilano University Blues women’s Athlete of the Week.
The Blues veteran midfielder played every minute of the weekend, helping her side to a draw with VIU Saturday before a Sunday setback to Douglas.
Smith helped drive play into the opposition area in both games, earning several corner kicks and drawing multiple fouls. The Port Coquitlam product directed two shots on goal against VIU and bounced back to provide a hard 90 minutes against Douglas on Sunday.
Tommy Millar is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The Blues captain played a hard 90 minutes both days as the Blues split a pair of home games.
In a physical affair Saturday against VIU, Millar absorbed much of the Mariners hostility in the middle of the park, helping the Blues get organized and in position to move into VIU territory.
In Sunday’s bounce-back win over Douglas, Millar again was a pillar in the middle, providing an outlet for teammates and calm leadership as CapU held on for the 1-0 win.
