The hoop must have looked awfully small to the Capilano Blues at the Columbia Bible College (CBC) gym last weekend.
CapU shot just 22.4 per cent from the field in a 65-51 loss to the Bearcats Friday and improved somewhat Saturday but were still just 29 per cent from the floor in a 78-50 defeat in the rematch.
They were the two lowest-scoring games of the season for the Blues.
On Friday, neither team scored much in the first half but the Blues managed a 29-23 lead at the break. They sagged in the second half, while CBC came to life, taking the game over in the third quarter with reigning PACWEST Player of the Year Elissa Vreugdenhil scoring nine of her 17 on the night.
The visitors shot just 4-of-17 from three on Friday and wound up scoring more points from the free-throw line where they were 17-of-23. Maddy Coffin and Barcha Hnizdilova were the Blues high scorers with 11 apiece.
Things didn’t get much better Saturday. CapU was down nine at half and then scored just 13 and six points in the third and fourth quarters respectively. Hnizdilova led the way with 15 points while Mia Parkin recorded a double-double on 11 points and 10 boards.
CapU was just 3-of-13 from downtown Saturday with Hnizdilova making a pair from beyond the arc.
The PACWEST schedule has the Blues (5-3) back at home Nov. 22 and 23 with the conference-leading Vancouver Island University Mariners (7-1) paying a visit to the North Van campus.
Game starts are 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
