A pair of international stand-outs earn Athletes of the Week recognition as playoffs near.
Barcha Hnizdilova is the Capilano University Blues women's Athlete of the Week.
The second-year forward from Czechia led the Blues in scoring in both games as they completed a weekend road sweep of Okanagan College.
In Friday’s opener, Hnizdilova helped CapU start fast and build a big halftime lead as she scored 11 of her 20 points and swiped three of her game-high five steals over the first 20 minutes.
On Saturday, she went for 21 points with eight boards, giving her a weekend total of 41 points on 15-of-23 shooting (65 percent) with 15 rebounds and five steals.
Kash Lang is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-4 guard compiled 34 points and 15 rebounds as Capilano took both ends of a road weekend at Okanagan College.
On Friday, Lang led the Blues with 19 points while playing all but two minutes of the game. With the game tied after the opening 10 minutes, he was at his best in the second quarter, scoring 11 points, including both of his threes on the night to give CapU the separation they’d maintain through to the final buzzer.
On Saturday, the Idaho product registered 15 points and seven boards while also handing out three assists. Lang’s contribution helped the Blues secure third spot in the PACWEST standings with one weekend of the regular season remaining.
