A pair of Blues transfers earn Athlete of the Week recognition.
Abby Betker is the Capilano University Blues women’s Athlete of the Week.
Facing her former team from COTR, Betker turned in her best weekend in Blues colours. She totalled 23 kills and showed extremely good serve-receive, repeatedly getting the Blues in system on first touch.
In Friday’s five-set affair, the Kimberley, BC product matched a season-high with 12 kills but was also brilliant defensively with 11 digs and a flawless night on serve receive.
Coming back Saturday, the 5-foot-11 outside hitter collected 11 kills and chalked up four aces while adding eight digs. For the weekend, her 23 kills came alongside five aces, 19 digs and three blocks.
Avi Gill is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-3 right side reached double digits in kills both nights as the Blues pushed the CCAA’s No. 1-ranked team but ultimately couldn’t pull off an upset.
Gill led the CapU offence Friday with 15 kills, a season-high, on 25 swings for a phenomenal .520 hitting percentage.
On Saturday, he recorded 11 kills while adding a block and five digs. His 26 kills on the weekend were accompanied by eight digs.
