Easing their way out of the gate in the PACWEST season opener, the Capilano Blues made up for a tepid start with a torrid finish in an 81-74 home victory over the Camosun College Chargers.
Camosun opened a nine-point lead in the first quarter thanks to 17 points off the bench and the visitors basically maintained the advantage into the halftime break.
CapU was a determined side coming out for the second half, with fifth-year guard CJ Campbell scoring a couple of buckets and last season's team MVP Tyrone Asenoguan hitting one of his two threes to get the Blues within one. They carried the momentum into the fourth where Shakir Yakubu scored nine of his 16 points and Josh Dhillon had seven of his 13 to put the home side up for good.
Asenoguan put an exclamation point on the win as he finished an alley-oop lob from Dhillon with authority just as the game went into the final minute:

Yakubu and Dhillon had nice nights in their debuts with Capilano as did rookie forward Josh Vandevelde who finished with seven points and four rebounds.
Next on the schedule for the Blues is a home game Saturday, Nov. 19 against Langara College. Tip off is slated for 8 p.m.

Tyrone Asenoguan with another huge play! This time he drills the deep 3 ball to claw back a few points but the Blues still trail the @CamosunChargers 41-33 at the end of the half. #GoBlues pic.twitter.com/MwhjMGicWx
