The Capilano Blues men's volleyball team continues to search for a win after a trip to Vancouver Island University (VIU) Oct. 28 and 29.
The Blues managed to take a set off the Mariners each night but the home side claimed both matches by identical 3-1 scores.
Friday night, CapU got off on the right foot by digging in to take a 26-24 win in the opening set. VIU responded, taking advantage of several Blues errors in the second set to win it 25-18, to even the match and then won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-12.
James Fong led the Blues in kills with eight on Friday to complement his three solo blocks. Jesse Lee and Stephen Searcy had six kills apiece while Colby Soolsma piled up three aces.
Searcy had his best game as a member of the Blues on Saturday as he racked up 12 kills though CapU dropped the first two sets before winning the third. Soolsma matched Searcy in kills on Saturday while Gabriel Canuto was productive with eight kills as he makes the switch from setter to the power side.
Other positive performances for the Blues on the weekend included rookies Owen Genge (11 digs over the two games) and Tate Wheatley who was in on five blocks.
After a bye next weekend, the Blues make another trip to Vancouver Island on Nov. 11 and 12 when they head to Victoria to face the 4-0 Camosun College Chargers. Start times are 8 p.m. for the Friday match at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
