Vibes are an important factor in volleyball and so far, they are all good for the Capilano Blues.
CapU took both ends of the Friday-Saturday PACWEST doubleheader against the visiting Columbia Bible College Bearcats and did not drop a set along the way.
In Saturday's afternoon affair, the Blues got a second consecutive day of production from veterans Sibby Bos and Nnya Mbaoma, the latter handling repeated first touches with few errors which kept the Blues in system throughout the match. Bos was a force at the net, recording three blocks Friday, and was the most effective server both nights for either team.
Capilano kept a fairly short bench in Friday's opener, but were able to get collegiate debuts Saturday from Makenna Hamilton-Jackson, Sophie Yarish and Taygen MacGregor.
On Friday, in the 2023-24 season home-opener and playing their first game under head coach John Swanson, the Blues came through in style with a straight-sets win.
Annika Kuznik was effective in the opening set, putting away three kills to set the tone for the evening. Setter Jayden Easingwood did well to get the hitters and middle blockers involved while showing some craftiness in putting away two kills of her own. She finished with 22 assists.
It was the first game together at the collegiate level for twin sisters Vanesa and Anika Gatto, with the latter transferring to CapU this season from Mohawk College. Both sisters were effective in serve receive and defence as Anika collected 15 digs. Vanesa lined up at outside hitter and had six kills to go along with seven digs.
The PACWEST schedule keeps the Blues at home again next weekend with Friday-Saturday games against defending PACWEST champion Camosun College. Game starts are 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
