A 4th-year transfer and a new-year addition to the roster earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Anika Gatto is the Capilano University Blues women’s Athlete of the Week.
The fourth-year libero was her usual surehanded self in two important wins on the road over Camosun as she was near flawless on serve receive and registered 32 digs over eight sets.
Gatto picked up 14 digs Friday in addition to her precision on the first touch which allowed the Blues to keep in system and set up big swings for their hitters.
Gatto outdid herself in Saturday’s rematch as she made just one receiving error despite having the most receptions of any Blues player and kept the ball off the floor by racking up 18 digs to keep the play alive. Gatto remains near the top of the PACWEST in digs and digs per set.
Suraj Gahir is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
In a split at home against the visiting Douglas College Royals, Gahir was tough on the glass in leading the Blues in rebounding both games.
In a big bounce-back win Saturday, the 6-foot-5 guard came off the bench and showed impressive range in drilling five threes on six attempts, many of those while tightly guarded, on his way to a season-high 19 points.
For the weekend, the North Delta graduate filled the stat sheet with 23 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
