A four-point weekend for the Capilano Blues has moved the team into playoff position just as the second half of the PACWEST schedule is set to begin.
The Blues scored a thrilling 2-1 home win on Saturday, on a wonder strike in injury time from Sebastian Cirotto that delivered the team's first win since Oct. 24, 2021, also against VIU.
CapU got out to a 1-0 lead in the first half Saturday on a Riley Marshall header off a corner from Tommy Millar. Capilano tried to make that marker stand up as the winner but VIU got a late tally from Matthew Coburn after some miscommunication by the Blues back line.
Cirotto's dramatic winner came off another corner from Millar as the final seconds ticked down. Millar's service glanced off the head of a VIU defender and bounced to Cirotto who side-volleyed it from distance to the top right corner.

For second-year Blues midfielder Adam Majuerae, it was the first win he's experienced in Capilano colours.
On Sunday at Douglas College, Millar's corner service was again on display as a beautiful delivery from the captain in the eighth minute wound up on the foot of Alex Lopez who buried it for a 1-0 lead. CapU increased their lead in the second half with Adam Majuerae sending a clever through ball for Cirotto who went in alone and scored his fourth of the season.
Douglas, the No. 3-ranked team in the CCAA, did not fold despite trailing by two and scored in the 66th and 69th minutes to tie it 2-2 which is how it ended.
Capilano next plays on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Langara College. On Sunday, Oct. 1, Langara comes to Lillooet Park at CapU for a 2:30 p.m. start.
