The Capilano Blues shot the ball extremely well both games and were in command for much of the weekend as they notched two road wins over the Douglas College Royals.
CapU got a game-high 23 points from Kash Lang on Friday, including 12 in the third quarter alone, as part of a 95-84 win. Each Blues starter scored in double digits to open the PACWEST doubleheader with Zach Klim shooting 6-for-7 and registering 14 points in 14 minutes.
Foul trouble kept the 6-foot-11 big man on the bench for stretches of the second and fourth quarters but the Blues got excellent production off the bench from forwards Josh Vandevelde and rookie Carter McCauley who each had eight points. Vandevelde also grabbed seven rebounds and added a steal and two assists.
Douglas led for much of the first quarter but Capilano got a bucket from Anthony Tamburrino in the final seconds of the opening frame to go ahead. The Royals briefly led again in the third quarter but a three from Lang 3:36 into the third put CapU ahead for good.
On Saturday, Capilano shot 55.7 per cent from the field (34-of-61) and were good on 12 of 25 from three-point range as they cruised to a 95-75 win which evened their PACWEST record at 3-3.
Klim went for 20 and nine in 33 minutes of work Saturday while Kobe McKnight came off the bench to score 14 points including a pair of threes. Ahmad Athman packed his stat line again on both nights as he totaled 22 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and seven steals for the weekend.
CapU is off for a bye week next week and visit Okanagan College Nov. 17 and 18 for their next action. Game times are 8 p.m. on the 17th and 3 p.m. on the 18th.
