A pair of rookies in Barcha Hnizdilova and Arshya Ghasemi earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Barcha Hnizdilova is the Capilano University Blues women’s Athlete of the Week.
The Czech international posted double-doubles on both nights, lifting the Blues to a pair of wins over visiting CBC.
Hnizdilova was all over the court Thursday with 21 points, 13 boards, four steals and four blocks and was perfect from three and the free throw line. She backed that up with 13 points and 11 rebounds Friday.
For the weekend, the 5-foot-11 forward was 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) from the field and she was perfect from the charity stripe, helping the Blues improve to 7-3.
Arshya Ghasemi is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-5 rookie point guard set a season high for points Friday with 25 in a thrilling 88-84 overtime win over CBC.
Ghasemi scored 13 of his points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Blues erase the 11-point deficit they faced at the start of the fourth. The West Vancouver product hit three triples Friday, including a huge one in OT that put CapU ahead for good.
For the weekend, Ghasemi had 37 points, eight rebounds and three assists while shooting 53.8 percent from the field.
