The Capilano Blues top three scorers for the 2023-24 season were each rewarded with spots on the various PACWEST All-Star Teams.
Veteran point guard Kirsten Abo took a spot on the 1st Team for the second time in her career while forward Maddy Coffin earned her first nod with a spot on the 2nd Team. First-year forward Barcha Hnizdilova pulled in several honours with a 2nd-Team spot, an All-Rookie Team nod and capped it with the PACWEST Rookie of the Year Award.
Abo posted the highest points-per-game number of her five-year Blues career, dropping 17.5 a game this season. She went for over 20 in eight contests, including each of the final two regular season games. The 5-foot-4 guard and graduate of McNair Secondary recorded career highs in threes made with 46 and three-point accuracy at 37.7 per cent.
Coffin averaged close to a double-double this season with 12.4 points and 9.6 boards per contest. The North Vancouver product and graduate of Seycove Secondary scored in double digits on 15 occasions and had 10 or more boards 11 times including tying a season best with 17 in the final game of the season. Coffin became a threat from downtown this season, drilling eight triples after not hitting from beyond the arc in her first two campaigns.
Hnizdilova joined Capilano out of Aquinas High School in Wisconsin and started every game on the season, proving invaluable as the team competed with just seven players on many nights down the stretch. The native of Ústí nad Labem, Czechia averaged a double-double with 11 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. The 5-foot-11 forward had 10 consecutive double-doubles from Dec. 2 to Feb. 16 and grabbed a team- and season-best 20 boards in a Jan. 12 win at Langara.
