CapU sports info
The Douglas College Royals came into CapU's Centre for Sport and Wellness for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader and looked every bit the part of a No. 12-ranked team in the country as they took two straight-sets wins from the Blues.
Capilano used a tandem approach at setter in Saturday's finale with both Jonah Violini and Brayden Labossiere running the offence at different points. Nothing seemed to make a difference however as the Royals set up Owen Lam for 12 kills and seven for Tyson Koop. Lam was also dangerous from the service line with five aces.
Douglas' 6-foot-7 middle blocker Lucas Sansone was a deterrent at the net with three solo blocks and a helper.
The Blues got some production Saturday from Trevor Matthysen with five kills and six for Dario Pereira. Brendan Zebrynski had two aces.
The Royals' near flawless execution put pressure on the Blues, who had difficulty getting into any kind of rhythm. In Friday's opener, CapU hung with the Royals each set but couldn't get over the hurdle. Douglas consistently put tough serves into play and used an effective block to disrupt the Blues attack.
Capilano finishes the season on the road with games Feb. 9 and 10 at Vancouver Island University and Feb. 16 and 17 at College of the Rockies.
