A crafty veteran guard and international standout earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Kirsten Abo is the Capilano University Blues women’s Athlete of the Week.
The 5-foot-4 point guard came through when it counted most for the Blues in a pair of home wins over VIU. Abo scored 15 of her game-high 27 points in the final frame Friday to turn a two-point deficit after three quarters into an eight-point win. The fifth-year veteran was 4-for-4 from three to close out the game and finished 6-of-8 from downtown to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
In Saturday’s contest, Abo helped hold off a late VIU rally, going 5-of-6 from the free throw line as part of a 13-point, six-assist outing. The lone three Abo made Saturday was her 100th make from beyond the arc for her Blues career. Her weekend totals were 40 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals.
Kash Lang is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-4 import guard continued his consistent play for the Blues, posting 39 points and 14 rebounds over a pair of games against visiting VIU. The native of Lewiston, ID went for 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting while pulling down seven boards and swiping two steals.
In Saturday’s finale, Lang drilled three triples on his way to 18 points while adding seven more rebounds. He shot an efficient 55 percent (12-of-22) from the floor including 5-of-8 from three.
