The Capilano Blues go into the exam and holiday break on a high note with a pair of convincing wins over the visiting College of the Rockies (COTR) Avalanche.
In Saturday's first game, Nnya Mbaoma scored a career-high 18 kills in a Blues three-set win, their fourth straight-sets win of the season and first since Nov. 3.
Blues setter Jayden Easingwood went early and often to Mbaoma on Saturday, who found her way through the COTR blocking formation with regularity.
Vanesa Gatto put away 11 kills while Natalie Rourke was in on four blocks and Sibby Bos notched three aces.
Sunday afternoon, playing the final game of 2023, CapU took the first two frames before COTR got their lone set win of the weekend. The Blues took care of business in the fourth, winning it on a big swing from Gatto, who reached 10 kills, making it back-to-back games for her in double digits. She also picked up two aces.
Rourke chalked up five kills with a block and an ace while Annika Kuznik had six kills was in on two blocks. Makenna Hamilton-Jackson matched her season high with four kills and Bos had a trio of aces for the second night in a row.
The Blues get a long hiatus in the schedule now on account of the exam and holiday break. They are not in action again until Jan. 12, 2024 at Columbia Bible College.
