The Capilano Blues outscored the Columbia Bible College Bearcats 43-24 over the middle two quarters on Thursday night, and that proved to be the difference as Cap came out on top 89-78 over CBC at the Sportsplex in North Vancouver.

Both teams stormed out of the gate and were on pace to break the century mark, with the Bearcats leading 27-25 after 10 minutes of play. Yet CapU clamped down on defence in the second frame, not allowing a point for over three minutes and taking back the lead. CBC kept the score close, but right before the end of the half the Blues hit three 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to help take a 10-point lead into halftime.

The third quarter was more of the same for Capilano, as they limited the Bearcats to just 11 points in the frame while tacking on 21 more of their own. CBC stormed back with 27 points in the final frame and at times pushed the deficit back to single digits, but the Blues kept up the pace on offence to score 21 in the quarter and hold on for the 11-point victory.

Four Blues players finished in double-figures, with EJ Mabone leading the way with 19. Greet Gill, who came into the game in the top three of the PACWEST leaderboard for points, rebounds, and assists, had another strong all-around game with 12, eight, and five, respectively. As a team, CapU dished out 26 assists compared to just 12 turnovers, with Wayne Untalan recording a team-high six helpers.

All 11 players who saw the court also scored a basket, with the team shooting a combined 44.4% from the floor.

The 10-3 Blues finish their last home game of the season on a winning note, and will travel to New Westminster on Friday to take on the 5-7 Douglas College Royals. With five games remaining in the regular season, Capilano remains in third place and will continue to push for a top-two finish that gives them a first-round bye at provincials.
